A Municipal Trend Emerging?

January 7, 2011 at 6:57 PM

A Business Lexington (KY) column describes what sounds like an emerging trend:

Lexington’s new mayor, Jim Gray, emphasized the role of philanthropy in Lexington’s future while campaigning and has placed leveraging philanthropy on his transition team’s agenda. In doing so, he joins a growing number of government officials seeking to ease budget deficits by tapping new funding sources.

Given the often gloomy news one reads about growing deficits at the municipal government levels (to say nothing of state and federal levels), my guess is we’ll have more candidates campaigning on promises to attract more and more effective philanthropic dollars.
