Indian Billionaires and Philanthropy

More on Indian billionaire Azim Premji and the call for more giving by India’s growing population of super-rich from the Wall Street Journal.

The author notes that while India is adding new billionaires at a high rate, “only a limited number spring to mind for having dedicated funds to charity in a big way.” Isn’t this part of the natural maturation of a first-world economy? India is still a new economic superpower; in time the wealthiest will give more. In the United States we had the robber barons before we had Carnegie and Mellon…
